We are looking to get some Project management software. This would be used to work with the design team, owner, contractors and anyone else who needs info about a project. Version tracking and ball in court are two items we would like to have.

What software has everyone used and was it a management headache to work with?

We are looking at MySmartPlans, Prolog and one other that the name escapes me.

Thank you for the help and time.

We recently started to integrate our project management processes with Hive (https://hive.com). We needed something to address a list of requirements from my project team, and Hive had the best capability to meet all of our requirements. Additionally, we have had a series of meetings with Hive before transitioning over, they did a great job of both providing a demonstration of Hive's capabilities and understanding our requirements.

As we've started to integrate with Hive, they have been meeting with key members of my project team and have figured out how we can best use their tool to meet our purposes. I would recommend them as a tool for consideration for anybody else. They have been a great partner in our transition.

In todays world agile is critical and JIRA is a great tool for that.

Mason, what industry are you working in? There are many good general project management platforms out there, but there are some that are specific to certain industries that you may prefer.

Does anyone use Newforma or ArchiOffice? I work in a small office (around 20 people), and I'm wondering if we could benefit from it... or if it's just too sophisticated (and thus expensive... like needing an indexing server) to bother. Right now everything is a mix of Word, Excel, Outlook and CAD and there is way too much time spent making PDFs and filing... or inversely no time at all is spent doing this and projects are horribly organized. I would just love one piece of software to do Logs, transmittals, email, tasks, manage contacts, etc etc!

edit: I should add, our manager uses Clearview InFocus for expenses and tracking time and stuff, and we use that for our time sheets.
Thanks,

Smartsheet is inexpensive and easy to use. Great dashboards for transparency to all stakeholders.

Have you tried using Microsoft 2019 in the cloud?

Mason,

Plenty of solutions, I see you're looking for construction-related software. For the planning part there is MS-Project or primavera and many others according to your project type and size. For quality, I have great feedback for PlanGrid.

The tool must fit to your defined project managment process. I am using Azure DevOps right now.
A few solid options people use are Procore, Prolog/Constructware, Asana and Smartsheet. All have their pros/cons: Procore/Prolog are built for construction and have good document control and “ball in court” type workflows, but can be a bit heavy and pricey.
Asana and Smartsheet are more general-purpose PM tools that are easier to adopt, though you may need to customize how you track versions and responsibilities. You could also consider building your own tool - it’s not extremely complex, and there are plenty of low-code/no-code platforms that can help you tailor it exactly to your workflow.
