Social media has been one of the greatest channel of mass communication that human has invented so far. I have been a big fan of Social Media for the last few years. I am amazed by the wealth of information that I can gather by connecting to the social media platforms.

Can we leverage this wealth of information in our projects ? Can Social media impact the success of our projects ?

Thanks Kiron for your inputs. So we can leverage Social media for stakeholder management, feedback like in public initiatives like smart city etc.

For product development - can we say for preparing for product launch ?
I am also thinking in terms of social media leveraged for getting ideas for what will work or what will not work in our products through customer insights.

As you said, I am not able to visualize a case for leveraging social media for internal initiatives or projects
Crowd-sourcing requirements ideation via social media can be done but the challenge then is one of managing expectations. When you ask for feedback you may not like what you get and you likely won't please all of your audience so there will be a need to set expectations appropriately in this regard.

Social media can be a powerful tool to help with prioritization, however. If you already have a defined feature list, you could use the "wisdom of the world" to help with the ranking process.

Also, it's a good way to pick up on potential delighters or to identify simmering pain points. Elon Musk is well known for watching tweets about Teslas and responds when he sees a particularly interesting feature suggestion...

Social media postings/usage from everyone can lead to unintentional information leakage in bespoke customer projects. Rights/permissions need to be allocated very carefully, sparingly and with multi level verification in place to avoid IP violations.

In my project we used a single door social media repository 'readable for all' and 'editable for few' to have a qualitative/safe database.
