The struggle of being “Honest”

If “Honesty” is by definition “straightforwardness of conduct, along with the absence of lying, cheating, theft, etc”…
And as a Project Manager, being honest means to “act in a truthful manner both in our communications and in our conduct.” (PMI’s code of ethics and professional conduct)
In our current daily context full of uncertainties and chaos in relations, are we all time honest?
If the answer is no, how can we achieve this status?

How can we be truthful in a positive manner? Brutal honesty can often be a morale killer.
Requires experience in dealing with people, maturity and robust communication skills

The most important thing is being honest to yourself, that is know your strength, weakness and your limitations and ensure you employ resources that balance these traits out. As it will be your management style that will lead the project team, the team members are in some sense a extension of your skills, experience and leadership. As regarding honest in the greater schemes of things, as projects are a series of decision making processes, ultimately ensuring the most accurate, relevant and factual correct information is provide to those in this decision making process leads to project success.
Key word: being empathetic with your team members and build rapport help in achieving this status

Interesting discussion - being 100% honest for sure should be a norm but honestly it’s easier said that done, I meant honestly, 100%? For human being? It’s mission impossible...

I aim for always being honest, but I often point out the positives in any situation as well. I like to approach life that way. I do not want this to be perceived as a PollyAnna approach, it is just a better way to look at the world. So, when I deliver "hard news" that is truthful, I like to look for and add what positives may also come from this.
