I'm sure most of you have noticed the update to PMI's logo and the look & feel of the site which is tied to PMI's brand refresh.

What are your initial impressions?

Hi everyone! We will have a front page display around the re-brand of PMI.org and ProjectManagement.com on Monday morning. Until then, there is more information over on PMI.org at the link below!

*edit - the front page was just updated with more information!

Could you at least add a night mode or an option to change all the hurting white background to gray?

There was a video in the August 9th edition of PMInsight (https://www.pmi.org/leadership-central/pminsight/9-august) and a short paragraph this edition. I believe there could have been a better preparation for release, explaining the full meaning. Unless I missed some communications, PMI was pretty quiet about it.

PMI has been working on this initiative for a while now. They did consult with a group of community / PMI experts through the way and inspected / adapted based on feedback as they saw fit.

Kiron and I were part of this group and regardless how I personally feel about this new logo and re-brand, I have to say, PMI did put lots of thought and effort in this re-branding and took a very interesting approach. I can elaborate a lot more about what each symbol means and so on but will leave it for Heather / PMI to do so via their post on Monday morning. You will notice that every chapter will have a different symbol now and each symbol has a meaning.

I personally believe communication with the release would have been helpful and important to the stakeholders. Imagine releasing. New brand and not communicating it before to the employees.

I have had non PMs ask me what it means already, how do I explain to them when I don’t know? Even some PMs can’t see the
“M”.

Posts on a few platforms asking what we think but how do we respond appropriately not fully understanding the logo? Additionally, responses indicating we should adjust and adapt to it are a little out of place in a forum where our opinions are asked.

Kiron and Rami, I’m happy to read that both of you participated. You are always giving back to the community. Thank you for all!

I agree - I was part of the consultation group too, and there was a lot of thought that went into the process. Regardless of my views on the logo, there have been months of thought gone into this rebrand and the launch.

Anthoney,

I do not disagree with you that advanced communication even via a simple e-mail is important in a situation like this so that stakeholders can be prepared for a significant change but this is something you need to take up with PMI not myself. I am a fellow PMI member just like you are. Heather from PMI indicated that proper communication is coming on Monday.

On another note, kindly read my response very well and please do not put words in my mouth because I personally never said you have to adjust and adapt. Whether you adjust and adapt that is totally up to you and I am not in a position to tell you or anyone else to do that. My statement is clear: I said that PMI inspected and adapted based on feedback from a group they consulted.

Rami,

I wasn’t taking anything up with you, I was sharing my thoughts. Also, I wasn’t quoting you on my comments. I was referring in that paragraph about the topic being on several platforms. It was one comment I received elsewhere, but interestingly it has been deleted now.

I never thought or implied any of this was in you personally. I apologize is you felt so.

No worries Anthoney, thank you for the elaboration. It just came across as if you are addressing this to me because you specifically replied to my comment in your response but now it is all clear now and again, I agree that advanced communication was a neccessary step prior to implementing such a major change.

While the brand refresh is dramatic and for myself has improved with further exposure, I think it says a lot about our global community that we feel so strongly about the change. I would take strong sentiments (positive or negative) over apathy or indifference any day of the week!

Hi!
I’m attending to the PMIGC19 and when I saw the logo I was wooow!! I’m really exited with the new PMI branding. However I’m aware that some organizations are in the middle of digital/organizational transformation, so they prefer to use the word Initiatives instead of projects. Do you think that highlighting the word Project in the logo was a right move or not?

Hello Mayte!

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, let's call it a duck :-)

I'm glad that PMI continues to use the term "Project" as that shows a commitment to the raison d'etre for the association. Had they tried to pick a more generic term or attempted to be politically correct to those who have an allergic reaction to the term "project" (e.g. some agile fanatics), I believe they would have inspired much greater negative reactions.
