Has PMI-ACP given you the edge?

Dear All,

Some of you may have achieved the PMI - ACP certification.

Reading on the internet , I found out that :-

1) One of the advantages of PMI-ACP over CSM is that PMI-ACP tends to cover different agile practices like Lean , Kanban, XP, Scrum , DSDM whereas CSM only concentrates on Scrum.

2) PMI-ACP equips the PM to lead projects in any field - eg construction or manufacturing as opposed to purely managing Software related projects as a CSM .

What are your thoughts regarding PMI-ACP? and is it worth pursuing ?

Yes, the value is in the overarching coverage.

Thanks Kiron . Am definitely not in a hurry to pursue ACP and will wait to see what unfolds next year :)

Deepesh -

I would suggest waiting on pursuing the ACP for a few months until PMI normalizes their certification roadmap for agile. With the acquisition of Disciplined Agile, there are quite a few certifications which will be launched soon and the relative positioning of those to the ACP is still somewhat nebulous. I've spoken with both Mark Lines and Dave Garrett of PMI regarding this and while they both feel the ACP is still valuable and relevant, it is possible one of the DA certifications might be more valuable.

Given the high cost ($400+ U.S.), I'd hold off for a little while...

I decided to take PMI's recent offer - and $150 rebate - to PMPs for the PMI-ACP. The offer is only valid until December 15, 2019.

Interesting - This only applies to PMI-ACP ?

Correct, Rami. Obviously, they would not have sent you the offer given you already got the PMI-ACP.

I got the first email a little over a month ago. I received a follow-up email as a reminder and, finally, a phone reminder yesterday. (I had paid ereyesterday.)

What was nice is that they give you the general project management experience, right off the bat, because you have a PMP. I also had taken enough agile webinars here that it covered the 21 hours of agile education. All I had to do was submit my 1,800 hours of agile experience.

That's interesting. At the time when I took the exam, I had to fill in the Agile Experience just like I did for the PMP Exam. I don't recall they took anything off the bat ... They must be making things easier after inspection and adaption ... Interesting

I am sure you won't leave it for luck but what do you suggest I say instead of Good Luck ? :-)
