Do You Lead With Your Head, Your Heart or Your Hands?

During my life I progressed my focus from Head over Guts to Heart.

Heart for me is ethical, making good judgements (Ethos)
Head for me rational, analytic, logical (Logos)
Instead of hands I would take guts, it is emotional, human (Pathos)

For a complete human and good leader all of them have to be on a high level and in a balance. It depends on the situation when one is more appropriate than the other.

If someone comes to you depressed and cyrying - use pathos.
If someone comes to you and asks for a decision - use ethos.
If someone comes to you with a problem - use logos.

We all are taught in the western cultures that logos is most important, measured by IQ and build by competing. Develop your pathos with working on your EQ, build by collaborating. The most difficult seems to be ethos, it is developed from experience, so exposing yourself to diversity and breaking out of your belief systems helps building it.

Interesting question. It depends on the situation, sometimes you need to use:

1) Your head, leaving your heard and hands aside.
2) Strike a balance between your heart and mind while leaving hands aside.
3) Use all three together.

Thanks for participating in this discussion. I know what you mean and I agree with you, however between what we are and what we want to apply there is always a gap and we know that in most cases we have dominant traces and only years of experience and training allows that we develop our weak traces.

I am a bit of everything . I tend to be the heart dominant in Agile Ceremonies at Work, and to promote best practices at work.

In personal life, If I want to tell people about all the wonderful places that I have been to in the world and give them tips and do's and don'ts, to coach them and to prepare them.

I tend to be the visionary when I have to plan something - Work or travel , create a schedule , Analyse alternatives, think about the best way to achieve the end or means to an end.

Once I have the vision , I use my hands to execute it , to go to places, to enjoy experiences , To execute the project .
