Great question, Alexandre.
During my life I progressed my focus from Head over Guts to Heart.
Heart for me is ethical, making good judgements (Ethos) Head for me rational, analytic, logical (Logos) Instead of hands I would take guts, it is emotional, human (Pathos)
For a complete human and good leader all of them have to be on a high level and in a balance. It depends on the situation when one is more appropriate than the other.
If someone comes to you depressed and cyrying - use pathos. If someone comes to you and asks for a decision - use ethos. If someone comes to you with a problem - use logos.
We all are taught in the western cultures that logos is most important, measured by IQ and build by competing. Develop your pathos with working on your EQ, build by collaborating. The most difficult seems to be ethos, it is developed from experience, so exposing yourself to diversity and breaking out of your belief systems helps building it.
Did you know that the Portuguese brought tempura to Japan?

Thomas,
Thank you for your detailed explanation. I liked the approached you followed using the Greek words analogies very interesting and analytics has the effect of capturing our focus in your text.
About tempura, sure every Portuguese knows this since first school years, there are more Portuguese influences in Japan, for example the first firearms in Japan were introduced by the Portuguese merchants. I was in Japan in November of last year, it was a great experience, allowing me to know with more detail the Japanese culture. This fact helped me improve the work relations with my Japanese co-workers in Portugal.
Alexandre.

Hi Alexandre, Thomas,
In the age of the voyages, there are romance.
I know that tempura was passed from Portugal to Japan.
I love "castella" among the same kind of things.

Interesting question. It depends on the situation, sometimes you need to use:
1) Your head, leaving your heard and hands aside.
2) Strike a balance between your heart and mind while leaving hands aside.
3) Use all three together.

Rami,
Thanks for participating in this discussion. I know what you mean and I agree with you, however between what we are and what we want to apply there is always a gap and we know that in most cases we have dominant traces and only years of experience and training allows that we develop our weak traces.

Hi Alexandre
I am a bit of everything . I tend to be the heart dominant in Agile Ceremonies at Work, and to promote best practices at work.
In personal life, If I want to tell people about all the wonderful places that I have been to in the world and give them tips and do's and don'ts, to coach them and to prepare them.
I tend to be the visionary when I have to plan something - Work or travel , create a schedule , Analyse alternatives, think about the best way to achieve the end or means to an end.
Once I have the vision , I use my hands to execute it , to go to places, to enjoy experiences , To execute the project .

Hi Deepesh,
Thank you for sharing you opinion.
Did you trained to balance the use of all options or is natural to you?
Seriously though, while one of these might be out default stances, we need to apply situational leadership to bring the right stance to bear for the right situation.

Kiron,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I already knew from previous discussions that you are a supporter to situational leadership, nevertheless we as human beings have certain characteristics some developed then others, and even with training sometimes we fell in the trap to react naturally in that cases the dominance takes control. You never had a dominant part or all of your skills as a leader emerge naturally?
