My recommendations are: 1-Do not try to memorize the PMBOK, it makes no sense. The questions are situational so the important thing is to understand the point where you stand. 2-ask tons of questions. Approximately 3-4 times the total number of questions in the exam. When you get 75% -85% you are prepared. 3-the day before the exam do not do anything that has to do with the exam. On the day of the exam do not do anything that has to do with the exam, except the exam itself obviously. 4-during the exam, do not stop to think a question. mark it "for review" and continued with the next one. 5-It is key that you review the document called "content outline". There is "the post" of the dynamics of the questions. The best for you. 6-REMEMBER: PMI expects you to respond within the framework of the PMBOK, NOT what you would do / do in your working life in the face of the situation.
This is the best I can recommend as someone who is part of the group that does quality control in the exam questions of all certifications. Saving Changes...

The exam is difficult. How difficult is subjective, but I found it difficult. I studied and prepared for several months prior to sitting the exam. It is not just about the material, but also about test taking skills. Its a beast of an exam; 4 hours and 200 questions.
Be mentally prepared
Healthy body is a healthy mind
Bio breaks (any break) does not stop the clock (as in don't load up on coffee before the test)
Control the test; do not let it control you
Manage your time
Drive to the site prior (different day) to feel comfortable with directions, parking, etc. Even go up to the room and ask the person at the front desk questions on signing in and how early to show up.

Of the four PMI certification exams I took, it was the most difficult. Are you taking the exam at a test centre or online? There are specific constraints to both options. My first three exams were at a test centre. I followed Andrew's advice. My last exam was online. I had to make sure nobody would come into the room where I was taking the exam. It took over 15 minutes to get the exam started. You have to be visible and audible during the exam. (I was told to not cover my mouth with my hand.)

Veering off topic a bit here, but it's nice to know the other exams are easier. In your opinion which was the easiest? (Not that there's really a thing as an easy PMI exam)

The exam is difficult but if you have the experience and knowledge, you will ace it.
One advice I can give to you, is when you do not know the answer, implement the process of elimination so eliminate answers that do not make sense and then chose the answer that makes most sense based on your experience and judgement. You will run into such situations during the exam.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Raymond,
I passed PMP exam 10 days ago. So I share very fresh feelings :-) Besides experience on project management (it simplifies a lot as you can compare PMBOK best practices to your own experience), to get prepared my way was: - Got 5 days classroom course to feel PMI sense on project management and identify my personal gaps - Studied RMC Exam Prep Book 3 times filling the gaps - Took 4 full exam simulations using PM PrepCast simulator, studing deeper the knowledge gaps identified - Scanning PMBOK in connection with Agile Addendum - Focusing on todays challanges - manages people, communications and stakeholders engagement
After exam, my advise: - Sleep well before the exam and have good breakfast. I came very slowly and relaxed to the exam in very morning - it helps! - Stress and very long situatonal questions makes 4 hours to short (during simulations I managed to complete the exam in 3.5h, live exam 3.9h) - but you are English native - maybe this is not an issue? - Do not utilize breaks, satisfy your physiological needs before the exam - 4 hours is a very short time when you get into questions! - Do not set yourself to success. Keep calm, imagine you solve real PM problems, use PM intuition. In my opinion PMP exam tests your "project management intelligence", not the PMBOK terms.
It's probably the most difficult certification I've taken. I did some online prep classes through ed2go.com (REP approved provider for basic PM courses btw)
I also used Rita Mulachy's book to self-study which I found to be far more understandable than the PMBOK (There's just no way to memorize all of it). I do recommend going through it many times but not trying to memorize it because you just can't Saving Changes...
