I recently published an article on the "Mamba Mentality for Project Managers". Based on feedback received, interested in knowing what metaphors can best be used to represent our practice of project management. Saving Changes...
I frequently use the metaphor of a long-standing line in a team game such as hockey or basketball and the benefit of reduced explicit communication and increased trust that comes with that...

My preferred sports analogy is: "you have to have a game plan". This applies to pretty well all sports even board games and cards. There is also talk of "sticking to the game plan" and "on the fly adjustments to the game plan"
Definitely applies to project management.

Dear Obiajulum,
I like the expression, "hitting it out of the park" for when a project exceeds everyones expectation.

An expression and experience i would also look forward to. Thank you Daire. Saving Changes...
I hadn't seen this before, but I'd go with curling.
Somebody starts off by creating a lot of momentum moving a heavy rock. Now everybody else tries to control that rock by frantically doing what is really important but looks completely trivial in order to guide that rock into a precise placement, even if that means shoving everyone else's rocks out of the way in the process.
As PMs, we are the people madly sweeping ahead of the big moving rock while walking on an extremely slippery surface and trying not to fall on our own backsides in the process. We wear special shoes, which equates to our credentials (PMP) for being able to successfully negotiate potentially dangerous terrain in order to accomplish a goal most people don't even understand let alone appreciate.
That seems an apt analogy to PM in my experience. Saving Changes...
