Hi All,

I am tracking the daily activities of a project. However, i need to report this on the weekly basis. The main thing that the managements need in the report is the number (how many we plan for this week, and how many we finish this week). The project takes months to finish. I have create my own report with ms excel, but i feel it is not good enough.

could you please advice how should a weekly report look like? Or any template that i can get from net?

Best Regards,
sanlen

Sounds like you need some kind of Project Report dashboard.
Portfolio managers often like "Highlights" too, so be sure to include this alongside your data.

Project Highlights usually look something like this
1) What has beed delivered this week
2) What upcoming deliveries are coming soon
3) Successes
4) Blockers (issues/risks)

I do weekly reporting on my project and it is very simple:

Tasks due for completion this week:
* task one - complete
* task two - in progress
[I put the text for these statuses in colour, so if it is complete the word complete is written in green, for example.]

Tasks for next week:
* task one (Mon)
* task two (Wed-Fri)

Other things of interest:
* point one
* point two

That's it! It's emailed to the team, the sponsor and the stakeholders, plus a few extra people who asked to be on the list. Periodically I ask if people want to be taken off the circulation list. I also have an Excel spreadsheet of the major milestones, which I circulate every 6 weeks or so for a wider perspective on the project as a whole. Feedback on this simple format has been very positive.

Hi All,

Thanks all!

I am working on the telecom project which including constructing building for telecom equipments, erection of towers, installing of telecom equipment and put it in service,....

Yes, i am thinking to create a dashboard, however, i am not sure what should be shown in this dashboard.

Would you mind to share me a template, or just images of project dashboard which similar to the project that i am working on so that i can use them as reference?

Thanks you very much for your time and all the advice you may give me.

Formats for project dashboards vary. If your stakeholders are always on the move, I will format it to fit their blackberrys, iphones or other devices. For such devices, avoid putting in complex tables or colors and focus purely on factual, brief text.
Also, frequency of your dashboards will depend on whether your project is very dynamic or not. A weekly dashboard will usually work for projects that lasts several months.
As reflected in many of the posts here, your main focus should be on -

1) Fact based reporting on the project progress
2) Your report on project team's upcoming assignments
3) Your assessment on the risks (long and short term) and issues
4) A brief outline of the major project milestones (Successful, Missed and outstanding)

Also, it might be a good idea to send this dashboard by Monday or start of a work week as they get the attention that they deserve.
