Hello!!! How would you recommend to select the Program Manager when there is a need to implement a Program that impacts different departments?

The question boils down to the core competencies of the job role. Develop a list of qualifications based on the unique challenges of the position.

Ideally the program manager has experience that spans the multiple departments. If one department has the bulk of the work or complexity, someone with extensive knowledge about that department is another option.

In addition to the business knowledge, there could be other factors like the ability to implement organizational changes. Specific leadership skills may be more important than the technical domain depending on the circumstances.

If there is a leading department or the sponsor is from one department, this department could be a good place to look for.

Otherwise hire someone coming with a clean sheet. People in departments like to be treated fairly.
