Hi all,
I just heard the new PMBOK Guide isn't planned for release until August 1 now. I just want to make sure that the 6th edition will also still be valid after the 7th edition comes out. I've heard the 6th edition information will be on the Standards Plus platform, but I just want to make sure that both editions will be valid. I'm updating my text books and trying to decide how much I can do now versus waiting for the new PMBOK Guide.

Key learnings and concepts from the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition remain valid and are referenced in sections of the draft Seventh Edition. We recognize that many project managers have used specific elements like the Process Groups and ITTOs very successfully in their own project environments. They can continue to use these elements while aligning to the concepts in the Seventh Edition.

For more information on the concepts and content of the Seventh Edition, visit our website at pmi.org/standards-projects. In addition, various volunteers involved in the development of the PMBOK® Guide and The Standard for Project Management posted blogs to The Critical Path on ProjectManagement.com. These posts focused on concepts and thinking as the team worked to develop content.

I just found this info on PMI's website under FAQs:
When will the Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification exam be updated to
incorporate the concepts from the PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition?
PMP® exam items are updated throughout the year as part of our continuous improvement and
examination maintenance process. Once the PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition is released, it will
replace the Sixth Edition as reference to validate the content.

So, will the sixth edition go away? Very confusing.

Kathryn -

Can you clarify what you mean by "go away"? I would assume that it will be just like previous editions of the PMBOK Guide - most likely unavailable from PMI's standards page. It might continue to be available for a short while from Amazon or other third-party sites till their inventory is gone.

Hi and thanks for your answers. I have question:
I would like to know when PMI will start to add new questions from PMBok 7th edition to the PMP exam? I use all materials based on 6th edition.

Viktor , With the release in 1st week of Aug. 2021 it'll take several months for PMP exam to start considering the new version. Expect the changes not before 2022 , as per the previous exam change trend.
6th edition related material is good and you have enough time to crack PMP.

All the best !

Viktor,
It is important to keep in mind that the PMP exam content is based on the Exam Content Outline (ECO). Within the ECO there are specific tasks that will be tested. Several references, including the PMBOK(R) Guide, are used to validate each question. Therefore, the impending release of the PMBOK(R) Guide - Seventh Edition will not prompt a change to the exam. It will continue to be based on the ECO. We highly encourage PMP candidates to refer to the ECO when preparing for the exam, and to use multiple references as resources for preparation.

I hope this helps.
