My understanding is that PMP is more widely known, plus there is much more than standard project management these days (i.e. waterfall) and I think PMP is embracing this change into agile and and hybrid project management.
I agree with Sandy that the PMP is gradually adopting more agile into its content and exam. That said, consider whether the PMI-ACP would be best. I have both PMP and PMI-ACP and can tell you that the latter really opened my eyes to how today's successful companies are utilizing agile best practices in being more responsive, creative, innovative, and customer focused. I seldom use PMP practices any more. All depends on your project culture and needs. No two are alike, as we know. Saving Changes...
