It is common to learn the best practices, best insights, and methods in order to succeed in a particular field. Looking from another perspective, what advice would you give to those "fresh" in the field of project management in regards to things they must avoid and should not do in order to be successful in the field. The scenario is catered to those that are putting efforts to become full-fledged project managers, program managers, portfolio managers, and project management consultants. Responses can be specific or generalized.
