Hello everybody,
I’m Donya Shojaeddini, A Project Manager.

Hello Donya,
I suggest you contact your local PMI chapter. Someone should be able to help you with setting up a development plan and seeking out volunteer opportunities. And, of course, they can help with setting up network connections.
Welcome to Canada. I wish you an exciting new journey.

For volunteer opportunities, you have two options:
1) Contact your local chapter. 2) Check the PMI VRMS System and you will find lots there. Some are virtual, others are in person.
For the courses, connect with me on LinkedIn. I frequently post professional development opportunities for courses and others. I just recently did.
Hope this helps.

Hi Rami, I Have tried using PMI's VRMS . and try to apply some volunteer opportunity, but unfortunately there is no single respond untill now, I hope VRMS can be updated, and old post that already obselete is removed from list.
As you are in North York, the PMI Toronto chapter is your closest (https://www.pmitoronto.ca/). They are one of the oldest and largest chapters and have many networking, professional development and volunteer events. Their courses are usually offered at a lower cost to members than if you took the same courses directly.
You can also check for volunteer opportunities on PMI's VRMS.
There are a number of PM training organizations based in and around the Greater Toronto Area - I happen to work for one of them :-)

Hi Donya
good luck with your new environment. Having project experience will serve you well and your strive to continue learning and start volunteering is exactly what leaders do.
Being from Germany, and not only because of Corona, I cherish online activities, remotely the selection is global and much wider, and it expands your network. Nothing to say against intermingling with the locals from time to time. You can have 2-3 or more zoom calls a week and maybe one f2f a month.
So, volunteering at PMI is using VRMS.PMI.ORG as the vibrant hub for volunteer profiles and opportunities and there are many opportunities either labeled global or for Chapters around the world. For example I am volunteering for the German Chapter, we did not meet in person for more than 2 years and our team is striving and organising monthly events. I could contribute from Antarctica.

Hello Thomas,
Thank you for sharing your experience and your kind words, I genuinely appreciate them and you.
Actually I checked the requirements of some Volunteer opportunities in Toronto chapters and their requirements were having Canadian experiences .
Unfortunately, things are complicated for newcomers here. Both for finding Volunteer opportunities or a job. But I won't give up and as you suggested I will check other chapters too.
