Greetings,

I'd been assigned to lead a project to open a new distribution center for a mid size retail company. I am wondering what are my best options to be able to do this while being mentored by an experience senior PMP.

Joel -

Does the company have any documents or records from the last distribution center which they had opened as that might be a good source of learning.

Is there a charter for this project already? If not, developing it and getting it formally approved by the sponsor and other key stakeholders might be the first step you take.

A lot depends on the location as well - is the company taking over an existing building, will they be building a new one on vacant land, or is the land not even leased/purchased?

You better pay your local Chapter a visit.

Hi Joel,

It sounds like a complex project. If the company has opened another distribution center in the past, I recommend retrieving the project documentation and reaching out to its project manager and sponsor. This will provide you a good starting point.

If not, the advice from Kiron and Abolfazi are worth investigating. Good luck.
