I am not from much technical background and have total 3 years of experience in Data Processing. Also completed Google Project Management Professional certification, but due to no experience in handeling projects individually it is difficult in landing even an entry level job in this field. Can anyone suggest what next step should I take to begin my career in this field and to gain hands on experience or to learn beig a part of open source Projects other than more certifications at the moment?

My advice to you is find a Project Coordinator role. This is a great entry level role that will give you hands-on experience and exposure to various aspects of project management.

Have you enquired about team/workstream lead positions within your current company as it is usually easier to do a move within the same company first rather than jump somewhere else?

Find out if you can get on a project at your company. Take any role, even as an individual contributor. Once you're on the project, offer to help team and project leads.

I totally agree with Ola. Also you can check with your PMI Local Chapter, as they all have volunteer opportunities that can be of added value to you.

You can start obtaining CAPM Certification, to acquire Project Management Knowledge.
I recommend Rita Mulcahy's CAPM certification prep, it's a good option to acquire PM Knowledge at your own pace, and is updated to the latest exam. Visit this link:

After that, you should apply for positions of Project Coordinator or Project Analyst role. This will let you put into practice your knowledge, and get more experience.
