I think AI can significantly improve resource allocation but it can't be solely relied upon for reasons like lack contextual understanding and human intuition, AI may not be sensitive to ethical considerations such as fairness, diversity, or the impact on team morale but is based on data driven patterns.

Garbage in, garbage out. Rarely do organizations have a good enough handle on individual team member skills and sufficient understanding of operational and project demand to turn things over to an automated solution.

A better approach is to reduce the amount of work entering the system to cut down on multitasking, and to look at forming long lived teams.

AI can be used to assist by using carefully designed algorithms, just like Google Maps can pick routes based on traffic patterns and input from other vehicles using the app. At this stage of technological maturity though, the output should definitely be verified for considerations such as you describe.

Sometimes AI also provides impossible solutions. For example, people relying solely on Google Maps sometimes drive their cars into lakes.

Relying completely on AI to make resource allocation isn't completely reliable, since many characteristics and talents of an individual aren't recorded or detailed in a database, and certain information about the person is perceived much better by a human being through an interview.

I posted this question as I have recently been part of meetings and discussion where some folks seems to believe that AI is one stop shop for all solutions. I'm not against using AI but leaving it unsupervised is dangerous, you still need human intervention.

This types of algorithms are today in lot of tools. Just to remember, AI algorithm will provide at least three scenarios with probability associated to them and it is the program/project manager who has to decide about the course of action. Some people thing that AI take decisions and that is not right except the human being that is using it allow that.
