Hi, I’m Karen and I’m a Compliance professional at a tech company. My favorite project management tools are those that facilitate seamless communication, task management, and process standardization. I would like to learn more about emerging tools that leverage AI to predict project risks and automate routine tasks, which could further streamline project management processes.
My journey into the project management industry began with a love for process improvement and standardization that I discovered early in my career. Although I initially wanted to be a veterinarian, my experiences in the United States Air Force and later roles in the private sector revealed a passion for managing projects and ensuring security in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity. What has kept me in the field is the dynamic and challenging nature of project management. I thrive on identifying and addressing process gaps, and I am driven by the opportunity to make impactful improvements in security and compliance. The satisfaction of bridging knowledge gaps, standardizing procedures, and protecting sensitive information has been a constant motivator throughout my career.
One of my proudest accomplishments is completing my doctorate in Business Administration. This achievement not only expanded my knowledge but also culminated in a capstone project that I am particularly proud of. My capstone, titled "Digital Practices for Effective Cross-Organizational Collaboration of Information Technology Remote Workers," explored the impact of remote work on collaboration in the IT industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research underscored the importance of adapting to digital practices for effective remote collaboration and has had a lasting impact on my approach to project management in remote settings.

Dana BowlinProduct and Engineering LeaderBoise, ID, United States
Hi! I am Dana Bowlin
As a kid, I wanted to be a landscape developer or a home builder. I ended up going into Software and building software for construction projects and most recently for Solar Installation Company. I still garden and have built out a few different backyards, gardens, and orchards.
I love agile practices and tools that help support that. I started in highly project-focused companies and have worked in the opposite of that at a few startups. I love just bringing order to chaos in the end, whatever that means from a tooling and method pov for the team
Honestly, I was driven to Project Management because the company I was at, as a Developer, I would have never moved up. I found that Project Management enables you to still use those skills and build bigger and bigger things.
I have so many proud moments, from standing on a 50 million gallon tank where I helped build the systems that enabled it to be built, creating a security program from scratch, and Enabling customers to watch March Madness and the Olympics on systems I helped build with no incidents, on I could go on.

Head of Cloud Software & Services| Ericsson EMEAVictoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria
I am Taiwo Popoola from Lagos, Nigeria. I am the ICT Program Director at Ericsson in the Middle East & Africa.
I have always wanted to be an engineer or work in an engineering-related field. I started my career in oil and gas as a design engineer for a year before I switched to the Telecommunications Industry. I have over 15 years of work experience out of which I spent over a decade in project management. I have been using MS Project for about a decade and other proprietary PM tools to manage projects.
While I was on a project as the Project lead for the optimization unit, I developed an interest in being overall execution accountable for project delivery. I had my PMP exam which gave me leverage to transition into PM at the higher level. Handling and successfully executing projects across multiple countries within and across continents gives me self-fulfillment and gets me going. Knowing that I am part of the change mkaersIt has never appeared to me that I made a wrong choice.
One of my proudest moments in project management is being the first across sub-Saharan Africa to earn 8 PMI core certifications. In addition, several awards and recognitions I have received across the Middle East & Africa make me appreciate Project management.

Manager, Content & Fellows| PMINewtown Square, Pa, United States
Hello, everyone!
-Your name and your current role
Dani Ritter, Manager, Community Content Engagement
-What did you want to be when you were growing up?
An archaeologist, museum curator, or librarian. I’ve always been fascinated by the pursuit of knowledge and by the artifacts, records and innovations that are created in that pursuit. They all help tell the stories of where we have been, what we experienced, the things that shape our journeys and our dreams.
-What are your favorite project management tools and technologies? Or ones that you’d like to learn more about?
I’m most interested in collaborative tools that help team members to effectively communicate ideas and feedback. With the distributed nature of most teams, and the pace of work, it’s easy to miss key inputs at various points during a project.
-What drew you to the project management profession? What's kept you in it?
While I can’t claim to be a project manager, I have worked on a number of project teams, and like many, I fell into project management accidentally. I’ve learned so much by working on project teams, and I’ve had opportunities I might never have experienced if I weren’t involved in project work. I’ve also gotten to work with people I might never have had the opportunity to interact with, expanding my network and my exposure to a range of expertise, diverse perspectives, and some really great people that make it fun to take on tough challenges.
-What's your proudest accomplishment (personal or professional)?
Professionally, I have always felt my best when I’m able to help another team member connect their passion and talent to achieve their own goals. I can’t take credit for the work that they do to build their own skills and go after those goals, but I am proud to have played any role that contributed to their success. Saving Changes...
Brian SpringmanFreelance Consultant/Program Manager| Springman Consulting LLCCharlotte, Nc, United States
Hi! I'm Brian Springman. I'm a freelance business consultant and program/project manager. I typically run projects from initial concept through the first release. Lots of focus on IT but I manage the entire scope of: people, process and technology.
When I was growing up I wanted to be a marine biologist studying dolphins. Boy, how I'd like to be in the Bahamas doing that right now! It was only a few years ago I finally got to snorkel with dolphins in the wild.
I really don't have a favorite tool. I've used or evaluated most of them. I usually end up using whatever tools my clients are using.
I was drawn to project management because I enjoy building things. I've been kept in it because I've been a consultant so long that companies won't hire me. Also, I shiver at the thought of simply managing a stagnant department.
What's my proudest accomplishment? I worked very hard to graduate at the top of my MBA class. However, that has a turned out to be a hollow accomplishment. I have also raised three good kids. But in all, I don't feel I've lived up to my potential and crave finding a real meaningful mission where I can leave a positive impact on humanity.

ASAKO ISHITANIMS&AD Systems Company, LimitedKanagawa, , Japan
Hello, my name is Asako Ishitani, and I currently work at an insurance company with around 40 branches worldwide.
When I was growing up, I dreamed of working with people from all over the world to tackle social issues.
I enjoy using Jira and Confluence for project management and documentation. I'm particularly keen on learning more about behavior-driven development (BDD) using tools like Gherkin.
I was initially drawn to the project management industry because I wanted to deliver IT services that help customers mitigate risks in their lives. Over time, I've found that effective project management is crucial in achieving this goal.
My proudest accomplishment is enhancing our agency system to provide customers with the best insurance options available.
My goal is to further develop my skills in project management and eventually lead initiatives that drive innovation in our company. I've led projects focusing on migrating from legacy systems to standard systems, enhancing efficiency and compliance.
