Replying to Karim Abdul Razak
...

Greetings from Ghana. I am Wing Commander Karim Abdul Razak, the Deputy Director Engineering, Ghana Air Force. I am a flight engineer with over 15 years of experience in overseeing aircraft maintenance projects. Occasionally, I also serve as a project officer, managing military construction and renovation activities within my organization.

I was born and raised in Kumasi, Ghana, under the mentorship of my father, who was a footballer. While I initially aspired to pursue a career in football, my father encouraged me to become an engineer. He provided me with the necessary resources, including engineering books, and guided me toward an engineering-related education. His dedication sparked my interest in the field, which I pursued through tertiary education, ultimately becoming an aeronautical engineer with the military.

In my current role, I am a member of the Ghana Air Force Contract Team. Over the years, I have supervised numerous aircraft maintenance projects and have been involved in negotiating aircraft-related contracts on behalf of the Government of Ghana. Additionally, I am a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers.

Although my professional background is in aeronautical engineering, my organization does not have specialized engineering departments, such as civil or chemical engineering. As a result, I am responsible for handling all engineering-related activities, which often requires me to apply myself across various disciplines to ensure the desired outcomes.

I have also been involved in projects with external partners, including Project DEFEND with the EU and an ongoing Super Tucano aircraft acquisition project with the OSC, US Embassy in Ghana. My engineering expertise has been crucial in these endeavors, and this experience has driven me to seek a more scientific approach to project management. Consequently, I decided to pursue the PMP program and join the PMI, where I hope to connect with subject matter experts and enhance best practices within my organization.

Welcome, Karim Abdul Razak! Congratulations on obtaining your PMP; we're glad to have you as part of the PMI community!

Juan Pablo Noriega Carranza Territory Manager| Camfil APC Lima, Lim, Peru
Hi everyone, I'm Juan Pablo Noriega and I work as a Territory Manager at Camfil Air Pollution Control, dealing with clean air solutions, like dust collection system projects.
As a child one of my favorite things were to build new thing and mix different kind of liquids, that's funny, by the way I think that's why now I'm a Chemical Engineer.
My favorite project management tools are Kan Ban Boards and Gen AI. I hope to dig dive in the last one, I'm very passionate at it.
I like so much doing projects since I left college, and now is great to do project management in the mining industry, and before in Oil & Gas. I think is awesome to build large process buildings, including the most advanced devices, love it.
My proudest accomplishment is that I build the biggest firefighting plant in the Oil & Gas industry in Peru, so, it was a project in the jungle and was a real deal.
Hope to connect with the community and learn a lot!

Shawn Cottrell Operations Research Analyst| Science Applications International Corporation Charlottesville, VA, United States
Greetings and good day! I’m Shawn. I grew up in Michigan, USA throughout my school-age years. I turned down a scholarship to university to join the U.S. Marine Corps directly out of high school. I spent the next four years working as a communications electronics technician learning what that meant as I moved to California, then Japan, then back to California. When I completed my contract, I stayed in California for a short time before moving to Virginia, via Mexico.

When I began to miss the culture of the Marine Corps, I rejoined the reserve forces and then moved to Minnesota. While living in Minnesota, I spent two years supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and during this time I met my wife. We decided to rejoin the active duty Marine Corps which caused us to move to California, back to Japan, back to California, back to Japan again, then to North Carolina. It's been quite a ride!

As I prepared for my military retirement, I realized that I had been actively engaged in IT and infrastructure project management and process improvement for more than fifteen years. This seemed like a logical transition for me.

I currently work as an Operations Research Analyst in Virginia and hope to transition back into a PM role soon. I stay engaged in my development in various disciplines on a daily basis. I enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors. I also enjoy relaxing at home with my family, doing puzzles and watching movies and classic television.

REMUS JOHN DE JESUS Project Manager| Schneider Electric Philippines Calamba City, Laguna, Philippines
Hello, I am Remus John, a Project Manager from Schneider Electric. I planned to become a Biologist but "forced" to take a degree in Electrical Engineering instead by my father who is also an Electrical Engineer. Good thing I have managed to fell in love with the degree and profession. :)

Well we have our standard tools/technologies in Schneider Electric but right now I'm continuously learning more about MS Project.

Prior to my role as a Project Manager, well I am enjoying my career as a Technical Leader. And then one day my Boss just asked me if I am ok to grow my career in Project Management. I said I'll try, the rest is history -- a good one I guess because I am so in to this career of mine right now as a Project Manager. I expect more years of new learnings with you guys and I expect to increase in all aspects as a Project Manager.

Thanks for welcoming me to this community!
