Hi everyone!

My name is Kyle Herrera, and I am currently a Senior Project Manager. I have more than 11 years of experience managing complex projects across various industries, including technology, digital marketing, and education. I am passionate about using innovative solutions and team leadership to drive project success and enhance stakeholder engagement.

When I was growing up, I was deeply involved in acting and spent much of my time on stage, but my true passion was always writing. I was captivated by the power of storytelling and the ability to create entire worlds and characters from my imagination. Although I enjoyed the creativity and expression that acting provided, I found myself drawn to the process of crafting narratives and exploring different perspectives through writing. This early passion for storytelling and creative thinking naturally led me to my current role in project management, where I enjoy building and leading projects that bring innovative ideas to life.

As an Atlassian Community Leader, my favorite project management tools are Jira, Confluence, and Trello—and I do love a good Smartsheet. These tools help streamline workflows, manage tasks, and track progress effectively, allowing me to keep projects on schedule and within scope. I am also interested in learning more about advanced project management software and integrating AI-driven tools to enhance project forecasting and risk management.

What drew me to the project management industry is the opportunity to bring structure and clarity to complex projects and lead diverse teams toward achieving shared goals. I enjoy the dynamic nature of project management and the challenge of adapting to new industries, technologies, and methodologies. What has kept me in this field is the satisfaction of seeing a project through from conception to completion and the tangible impact it can have on a company and its clients.

My proudest accomplishment is leading the development of a mixed reality app that reduced bug resolution times by 33%. This project was challenging due to its technical complexity and the need for close collaboration between diverse teams, but it was incredibly rewarding to see it succeed and positively impact the user experience.

I’m excited to be a part of this community, learn from all of you, and share my experiences. Looking forward to engaging with everyone!

—Kyle

DE&I Manager| PMI Pa, United States
Hi everyone!

-Your name and your current role
Megan A. Speight, Culture, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Manager

-What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A Lawyer who was then elected to be a Judge

-What are your favorite project management tools and technologies? Or ones that you’d like to learn more about?
I enjoy using a variety of project management tools to ensure projects run smoothly. My team uses and has used Microsoft Teams, Monday.com and Smartsheets for our projects to communicate and help keep track of timelines and deliverables. I’m also interested in exploring more advanced analytics tools like Tableau to better visualize data and outcomes in project management. We have a great team internally who are professionals at Tableau and I enjoy learning from them.

-What drew you to the project management profession? What's kept you in it?
While I’m not a project professional by title, I do manage projects in my role and was initially drawn to project management because of my passion for communication, organizing and using my skillsets to achieve tangible results that support our organizational strategy and business goals. The ability to bring together diverse teams to work towards a common goal is incredibly rewarding. What has kept me aligned to this profession is the impact I can make, especially in my role as a Culture Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager. Leading initiatives that foster inclusive environments and align with strategic business goals is not only rewarding but also drives my commitment to the profession.

-What's your proudest accomplishment (personal or professional)?
My proudest professional accomplishment is growing PMI’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion program. These initiatives have not only fostered a more inclusive workplace but have also created opportunities for employees to engage with the company’s mission on a deeper level and have impacted our Global Community. Additionally, being recognized as the 2023 Women of Project Manager Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Champion was a significant honor and a testament to the impact of the work I’m passionate about.

Ally Hepp IT Project Coordinator| University of Maryland Baltimore County Baltimore, MD, United States

Hello! I'm Ally Hepp, I run a brand new IT Project Management Office at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I'm learning new things every day and that's good for me.

Smartsheet is our project management tool of choice, though I've used MS Project, ProjectLibre, Monday, Asana, and others. I started my IT career in Audiovisual Engineering doing more technical work, but also project managing my own projects and small install team. I pursued a Master's degree in project management, which led me to my current role. One of my proudest personal accomplishments is running a trail 50K (31 miles) in 2023!

Nicholas Masi Sr EM Program Advisor| Ontario Public Service

Hello, PMI community!

I’m Nicholas, I currently serve as a Senior Emergency Management Program Advisor. Emergency Management has been a growing field that I fell into. My educational background has afforded me a strong interdisciplinary background covering both scientific and arts skillsets. While my strengths always revolved around process improvement and systems based thinking I am still searching for that career that offers a satisfying balance using my skill sets. Emergency management so far has provided this opportunity however with more project management experience I know I can even transform regular work processes that I see everyday.

In my work, I rely on tools like Microsoft Project and MS Planner and have been adopting Kanban and Agile principles for efficient project tracking, whenever it best suits our needs.

Given my background in Cognitive Science which heavily focuses on artificial intelligence, I’m eager to explore emerging technologies like AI-driven analytics to further enhance our strategies. Leveraging my partial IT background and bridging a world of technicality with a world of emergency management. What initially drew me to project management was the challenge of turning complex ideas into reality, and what keeps me engaged is the constant opportunity for growth and innovation.

One of my proudest accomplishments has been leading a transformation of how my organization performs annual regulatory quality assurance reviews of fulfilling program legislative requirements. I’m excited to share experiences and learn from all of you!

Best regards,
Nicholas
