Hello everyone,

As part of a class in construction project management and from a completely fictitious context, my team must produce the project identification thesis and I would like to know how to go about estimating the duration of the different steps: identification, definition, procurement, realization and termination.

The training teaches us that several solutions exist such as communication with specialists and the use of the analog method. However, I do not want to call businesses and waste professionals' time. So, I was wondering if there weren't databases of the same type as for cost evaluation available to everyone. In this context, I can subscribe to the premium subscription if necessary.

To put you in a situation, we decided that the project consist in the construction of an aquatic complex for the city of Rouyn Noranda and the cost estimate amounts to 20 million CAD. My teacher doesn't expect a perfect timeline, but I still have to provide references. Artificial intelligence software is not permitted, despite the fact that it gives suitable values.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

Try searching both construction project management timeline example and template. That can give you an idea of what to include and also relative durations. Case studies is another search term that may yield useful results as they often compare the original plan with what actually transpired. You may find examples of different size projects than your own but you can scale them based on the size of the projects. Phase durations do differ but are often similar proportions for similar types of projects

Try to find projects with significant similarities. I might compare it to a gymnasium with an extremely overbuilt foundation to support and contain a lot of water, and major upgrades to the city water supply and sewers. Another way to look at it might be the foundation and utility upgrades for a very large building, with a much smaller building actually built on top.
