How can we ensure human expertise in supply chains remains an essential part, even with AI? And what's the best way for humans and AI to work together in the future?

AI has been used in supply chain from more than 30 years ago. The point is that it becomes buzzword because the marketing around generative AI. More than AI in general the key technology behind supply chain is blockchain, the same that becomes popular because the bitcoins. But let me say is some kind of misunderstanding about AI. AI outcomes are probabilistic then final decision still remains in the hands of human beings. What it is no doubt that repetitive tasks will be replaced by AI (just to comment, AI is a boarder term) and this is impacting the supply chain in some of their points.

Agree! AI helps in the supply chain by automating tasks. However, humans are still needed for decision-making and addressing complex issues.

Muhammad,
Here is an insightful ASCM (formerly known as APICS) article on the role of AI in the supply chain, "5 Ways AI Is Becoming Essential to Supply Chain," which describes the development of AI and applications of AI in the supply chain and related fields. One of the main points of the article is that the quality of AI depends on the quality of the data it uses.

So long as we view AI tools as helpful, but junior assistants, the types of interventions or involvement required will be clear. It is when we choose to abdicate key responsibilities to these tools that trouble begins!
