When you get a new project from a customer how do you build a good rapport with them? What tips and strategies do you use to stay in regular touch with the customers without being too bothersome?

Sowkarthika, there is no short answer to your question but briefly, there are two very important things to do at the outset of the project. First, you need to fully understand your customer's expectations and demonstrate commitment to meeting their needs. The second most important thing to do is clarifying what their communication preferences are then set clear communication channels.

To add to Rami's great response:

1. Make sure you understand what success looks like for them and which constraint is most important

2. Ask how much or how little they want to be involved in the project

3. Establish some simple ground rules with them

I guess good rapport could be achieved by fulfilling their needs. To me what matters most are:
1. Their geographical location/time zone
2. Culture/language/Interests
3. Influence on Project
4. Project requirements
