Can you share best practices and lessons learned around evaluating and implementing AI tools for your organization? How is/was this different from evaluating or implementing just any other technology vendor?

From my vantage point of view as a consultant working with different companies, I find that organizations who work with more antiquated systems are struggling to update their legacy systems and procedures with basic technology, while more advanced companies are hyper focused on AI at the moment. As a PM, I see the evaluation, implementation, and management of these projects as one in the same.
Thank you, Candice! I have a similar observation having worked with both large companies and small-to-medium size ones - the process for evaluating a new tech tool is the same. The smaller, tech-savvy companies are very focused on incorporating GenAI tools and are more risk-tolerant than the large corporations, but everyone seems to be struggling with focusing on a specific approach long enough so that they can see some results. So many new shiny things to chase!

In our company the AI is still budding up, we are mainly using for finance data modeling etc. We are yet to bring it into technology applications..

When evaluating and implementing AI tools for organizations, it's crucial to define clear objectives and assess data readiness. Conducting a Proof of Concept allows for testing the effectiveness of the tools and identifying potential challenges early on. Ethical and regulatory implications must be considered, including data privacy and bias mitigation. Providing user training and implementing change management strategies are essential for successful adoption within the organization's culture. Continuous evaluation and improvement post-implementation ensure optimal performance and alignment with organizational goals. Comparatively, evaluating and implementing AI tools differ from traditional technology vendors due to the complexity of algorithms, heavy reliance on data, dynamic nature, and considerations of interpretability and explainability.

AI is a boarder term. Tools are using AI from long time ago. More than 40 years. Just the new architecture of generative AI tools (like ChatGPT) changed the game because you need to add some roles like lawyers, linguistic, diversity and inclusion subject matter experts to your team. So, if you ask me, my recommendation is taking a look to the two courses delivered by the PMI for free because, when they are mostly based on generative AI, I think they will help a lot on answer your question.
