Someone can help me in this question found in PMI study ALL:

Midway through a project, the project manager identifies new stakeholders. Each of these new stakeholders plays a different project role.

What should the project manager do first?

1 Meet with the project sponsor to learn if new roles have been created.
2 Review the stakeholder register.
3 Submit a change request to the change control board (CCB).
4 Update the stakeholder management plan.

My answer was (2) but is incorrect:

Solution: D. Update the stakeholder management plan.

Someone please can give me a explanation?

First, the current name for the document is the stakeholder engagement plan to reflect the fact that we engage with stakeholders rather than manage them.

Page 131 of the Process Groups Practice Guide indicates: "The stakeholder engagement plan is updated regularly to reflect changes to the stakeholder community".

The rationale behind this is that the stakeholder register is an input into the development and updating of the stakeholder engagement plan as the plan contains details about how the team will engage with different stakeholders and so when new ones are identified, the information about how to engage with them would need to be added.

I would say because you've already determined that these new stakeholders have some kind of role on the project. Following up with the manager (1) could be done after the fact to better understand why the new roles were created if there isn't an obvious explanation. Review the register (2) is already too late, you know the roles are new so they won't be on there. Updating the plan is the best answer.

Marco, I do fully agree with Kiron's rationale and the correct answer is definitely D. Look at it from another angle, you do review the stakeholders register to check if the stakeholders are identified and on that list but the question says: "NEW" Stakeholders Identified which means the PM already did review the register so the next step would be to update the stakeholders engagement plan. Hope this helps!
