Idea for PMBOK

PMP exam and other exams ensures credibility of person to perform as a good manager, I feel they should consider updating PMBOK content to generate good leaders, they have to create one certification upon earning proves his efficiency as leadership, this must be highest in the certification tree, prerequisite to achieve this certification is by reviewing his work life experience not exam. It just a thought, we should evolve to bigger scale as we move forward.

Perhaps I did no understand your post, but when you apply to certification you have to specify your work life experience. In fact, you could be elegible for auditing the data (I was in my first certification application).

Thank for reacting to my idea. post reading your response, seems like certification\awards to prove leadership credibility may not be needed as his accomplishment would directly reflect his leadership ability, but question is always there does every leader is a leader, how many persons has inspired or guided or mentored by him. leader should be the one who's success is determined success of his followers\team members, if he grows his member should grow too, if they follow his path or though process.

Because in organization employees are ruled by leaders but very few connect and guide or groom others. This again turns the table i.e. to get mentored or groomed by a leader to move high in life, do the employee have to make use of flattering \ Sweet talking technique?

Almost no PM certification demonstrates that you are a good manager OR leader. They might demonstrate that you have an understanding of what SHOULD be done but that does not translate always to what you do in your day to day interactions with stakeholders.

360 degree feedback and observation of how someone responds to a given situation are the best way to get a true understanding of capability. Barring that, a realistic scenario (ideally something like the Kobayashi Maru simulation from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) would be a good substitute.

Manoj, in principal, I do agree with my fellow colleagues. Soft skills are acquired over the years through experience and a certification is merely a proof that someone has an in-depth knowledge in a certain field but by no means it would imply than someone is capable of doing the job!
