Lessons learned are a constant source of wisdom that we acquire in the course of each new project of which we are part. Certain lessons linger in our minds because they taught us something very significant. ¿What is that important lesson learned that you have never forgotten to this day?

My most important lesson learned is the impact of motivation on the team members. It makes the team to want to get the job done also go extra mile in collaboration. So naturally, It just transforms the team to a self-organizing team.

It's true, Taiwo, motivation gets the team deeply involved with the project, and the best results are achieved.
Well, its the people who get the job done not the tools and methods.

Veronica,

I’ve habitually encapsulated my lessons learned into short quotes, putting a little humor into them, thus making them more memorable for myself and others.

Here’s one of my first that I put to memory:

- Projects, like life, are unpredictable; accepting this fact mitigates the likelihood of you spending more time on your therapist’s couch digging yourself out of the PIT (Project Induced Trauma).

George,
It's a good idea to have a collection of short quotes about lessons learned. Surely the addition of a bit of humor makes the quote more enjoyable.

Learning every aspect of your project can certainly be a challenge. However, if you have the opportunity, definitely take the opportunity and make the investment to learn all you can. Whether it be why certain requirements of a construction project need to be met, or how a particular IT platform actually works as a couple of examples.

Years ago, on an IT project, I relied heavily on my team to understand the platform. Although I had the chance to learn it myself, I chose not to and relied on others. I didn't dive deep or get hands-on experience. This decision ultimately backfired. Moving forward, I realized the importance of investing time to learn about various aspects of my projects.

The more knowledge you acquire, the better the outcomes will be, and the more valuable you will become as a project manager. So, if you can learn, make the investment and do it!

One of the most important lessons I have learned is to spend more time up front identifying key stakeholders and asking them questions. Find out what they really care about. It is probably something different from what you have been told.

Hi Veronica,
For me, it was the importance of taking time to build relationships with the team and invest in team building, before deep diving into the project work.

What matters to me is that my actions/thoughts/behavior/knowledge should bring positive impact in someone's life irrespective of situation. Always think, try to learn from everyone, be grounded and feel that we are here to serve, to empower.

are some examples of unforgettable lessons:

The Importance of Communication: Misunderstandings can lead to significant project setbacks. Clear and open communication can prevent confusion and foster collaboration.

Adaptability is Key: Projects rarely go exactly as planned. Being able to pivot and adapt to changing circumstances is crucial for success.

Time Management Matters: Poor time management can derail a project. Prioritizing tasks and setting realistic deadlines can help maintain progress.

Stakeholder Engagement: Involving stakeholders early and often ensures their needs are met and helps build support for the project.
