With Generative AI, iteratively refining and optimizing prompts can lead to better AI-generated results. This may involve adjusting the specificity or clarity of the prompt to increase relevance and accuracy of results.

What examples do you have of how improving a prompt drastically changed the output quality?  What specific changes did you make that led to the improvement?

AI helps us work smarter by generating ideas, analyzing data, and handling repetitive tasks, freeing time for more creative work.

In my experience, refining the prompt can dramatically elevate GenAI output quality. Even small adjustments—adding context, clarifying the objective, or specifying the style—often shift the response from generic to highly accurate and actionable. Well-crafted prompts essentially guide the model’s thinking, resulting in outputs that are far more aligned with the intended goal.

On more than one occasion, I've seen that small adjustments to the wording of a project prompt can make the difference between a generic deliverable and a truly useful, contextualized proposal ready for implementation in a real-world project environment.

Refining a project prompt isn't a luxury; it's a critical skill. In the context of project management, where every decision impacts costs, schedule, and scope, the quality of the information we obtain from AI depends directly on the quality of our questions. Learning to converse with AI precisely and purposefully is becoming a natural extension of our communication, analytical, and leadership skills.

I have been very successful at prompting regarding SQL coding. Starting with a small example and growing from there.

Very much but its all again based on what you are looking for and prompts entered language matters a lot, if you dont know the extract you wanted from Gen Ai you will unable to conclude it as every time you change the prompt the output gets modified accordingly its not the same as previous output shared.

Sorry, I have not worked with GenAI long enough to refine a prompt.

In a recent learning exercise on applying AI in management, I initially asked GenAI to “explain how AI helps managers,” and the response was broad and theoretical. I refined the prompt to add focus and context: “Explain how AI improves decision-making, forecasting, and team productivity in day-to-day management, with simple, practical examples.”

This revised prompt produced a far more relevant and actionable explanation that aligned with real management practices. The shift from a vague question to a clear, purpose driven prompt significantly improved the quality and usefulness of the output.
