With Generative AI, iteratively refining and optimizing prompts can lead to better AI-generated results. This may involve adjusting the specificity or clarity of the prompt to increase relevance and accuracy of results.

What examples do you have of how improving a prompt drastically changed the output quality?  What specific changes did you make that led to the improvement?

I’ve found immense value in adopting the Role-Task-Format (RTF) technique and breaking down prompts into smaller, interconnected components.

Refining a prompt in GenAI is a critical step. By considering some key points as Clarity and Specificity, Contextual Relevance, Reduction of Noise, Improved Detail and Depth, Consistency and Quality, Flexible using RTF/CREATE formulas and Prompts/Chaining Prompts, We can drastically improve the quality of the output.

There are framewoks to create prompt. This is part of the Prompt Desing discipline. Those that gave me and the initiatives where I was included are:R-T-F (Role-Task-Format), T-A-G (Task, action, goal), B-A-B (Before, after, bridge), C-A-R-E (context, action, result, example), R-I-S-E (role, input, steps, expectations).
Thanks Sergio. I'm in Italy now but I'm really from Córdoba.

Refining the prompt allowed me to be more granular in what I was seeking. I was no longer getting generic feedback from the AI, but instead it focused on specific information that was needed.

In my experience with generative AI, refining prompts dramatically enhances the quality of the results. For instance, changing from a general prompt like "What are some effective business strategies?" to a more specific one such as "What effective strategies can a small store use to expand its online presence in Peru?" resulted in much more relevant recommendations. Similarly, refining "How can we improve team performance?" to "What specific methods improve performance in a remote software development team facing communication challenges?" provided more practical and directly applicable strategies. These adjustments made the AI-generated responses significantly more useful and aligned with specific needs.

Prompt refinement is essential to value-adding with GenAI. Prompts and estimates must be refined for the same reasons: there's no value in an unrefined estimate. PMs must also know when to stop: when the marginal value of more prompt refinement is less than the time invested.

I've found that refining prompts in Generative AI can significantly impact the quality of the output. One example that stands out is when I was working on generating creative marketing copy. Initially, I used a general prompt like, "Create a catchy slogan for a tech company." The results were decent but lacked the specificity I needed.

To improve the output, I refined the prompt by adding more context and specific requirements: "Create a catchy slogan for a tech company that specializes in eco-friendly, sustainable solutions, targeting environmentally conscious consumers." The change in output was dramatic—AI produced slogans that were not only catchy but also aligned perfectly with the brand’s values and target audience.

The key changes I made included:

Adding Context: Including specific details about the company and its focus helped the AI generate more relevant content.

Target Audience: Mentioning the target audience guided the AI to tailor the tone and messaging appropriately.

Clarity: Making the prompt more explicit ensured that the AI understood exactly what was needed, reducing ambiguity and improving accuracy.

This example highlights how thoughtful adjustments to prompts can greatly enhance the relevance and quality of AI-generated content.

In my experience, it is crucial to invest time in prompting with AI. The more you use AI, the more trained both you and AI get. Prompt chaining and refining definitely improves the accuracy and the effectiveness of the outputs generated by AI. The continuos feedback and adjustments have a possitive impact in the quality obtained from AI.

Great examples Sergio.
Refining prompts are key for using LLM and it requires analysis and creativity from the PMs in order to be able to chain the responses accordingly and have a more structured final result.

If you can provide examples, that helps tremendously!
