Hi everyone,

I’m preparing for the PMP exam and aiming to pass on my first try. There are so many study materials available, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to narrow them down. Could you please share your recommendations on which materials I should focus on?

Thank you!

Ruth, for the PMP, here is what I suggest you do:

1) Read through the Exam Content Outline (ECO), PMBOK 6th Edition (Including the Agile Extension as lots of questions are Agile / Hybrid based) and then read the PMBOK 7th edition (it is a small book). Alternatively, you can read through the ECO, PMBOK 7th edition and then go through the new Process Groups Practice Guide.

2) Go through Rita Mulchay’s Exam Prep book, I think its 11th edition now, but double check. This is one of the best resources for exam preparation.

3) After you are done, purchase the Simulator Package through PM Prep Cast and practice as much as you can. This is a great simulator and resource for questions that mimic the real exam and will boost your confidence the more you practice.

4) If you want a course to fulfill your 35 Hours then check Joseph Phillips on Udemy. He is a PMI ATP and great instructor or check out PMI's self-paced course in the PMI Store.

Hope this helps - Good Luck!

Thank you, Rami, for your prompt response. This is very helpful. I am really looking forward to pass on first try. This is my goal as it has been my desire to complete PMP certification. For the credit hours, that one I have already earned as of today through university courses I took for project management.

I have heard many people recommending Rita's books too. Wish me Luck!

Thanks again

I've heard others recommend Rita's book. Just purchased the 11th edition published January 2023.

The Professional Pocket Prep app seems to have a lot of high ratings, so that's what I've been using to study on my phone.

Thank you Tantalizea. I ordered Rita's book as well same edition as yours and it will be delivered next week. So far, I am kind of narrowing down to: Andrew Ramdayal cram course, I am listening to David Mclachlan YouTube videos and I am about to purchase a practice test on PMI study Hall. I will also review the ECO as recommended by Rami. I just downloaded the Pocket Prep App, have never heard of it- thanks for suggesting. I wish you the very best!

Hi Lynesha, welcome to this community. I have found it super helpful as people are very responsive to questions. I also joined this year. There are many resources I think people have utilized to pass PMP. I raised the study materials question as my goal is to narrow down to few good ones as it can be overwhelming to figure out which is which. Reddit is anoter site that has been recommended. You could join the PMP exam site. All the best as we go through this journey.

We can do it! I want to give ourselves as much positivity as possible:)
