The PMBOK 7th edition states that the principles should be followed by the entire project team, not just the project manager. Can you share some tips that you use to disseminate these principles among your teams and, why not, among the project stakeholders?

Principles are academic - how we apply them counts. Encouraging practical methods to bring each principle to life and helping the team develop ways of working that incorporate these principles can help...

Francisco,

From my perspective, there is no need to have a strategy to “encourage stakeholders to embrace PMBOK-7 principles.” Why? Because there was no functional change in our profession. Instead, we had a change in how we communicate the knowledge of our profession (i.e., principled-based versus process-based).

Changing the PMBOK to a principle-based narrative was necessary, amongst other reasons, to correct the errant perspective that the PMBOK was a process template that one should follow to execute a project, even though it was footnoted and addressed that this was not the case, the structure of the work, for many, implied otherwise.

A good form to introduce slowly the concept of principles of PMBOK 7th to the project's team members is to associate each of them to the processes of PMBOK 6th. This association will help them to relate the previous concepts they already know, to a new form of knowledge based on principles. And, of course, putting into practice all the theory will consolidate the application of these new guidelines.

Verónica,
Agreed. Associating PMBOK 7th principles with familiar PMBOK 6th processes provides a gradual and effective learning path for the team. This approach leverages existing knowledge and facilitates the transition to the principle-based framework. Practical application is crucial for reinforcing understanding and successful implementation.
