Even with tech skills, and a ton of experience, I see the response is low for new applicants. Is this because of AI or recession or just the PM role/duties?

Project Management knowledge would always be appreciated since projects are the basis of ejecution for an organization. Companies have tightened the selection processes with multiple stages and analysis, to ensure they chose the appropriate candidate.
Of course IA has revolutionized various aspects, and the selection personal of a company would prioritize persons that have actualized knowledge in IA for Project Management. Also, job recruiters can use IA by themselves to optimize candidate selection.

I fully agree with @Omar Jabbar. We need to understand that, with the new model of generative AI, business analyst/portfolio manager/program manager/project manager (between others) "are dead" at least as originally defined. If we do not understand that, we are lost.
