Increasingly, project managers are using GenAI to enhance various aspects of their workflows, operate more efficiently, and reduce manual tasks. Examples include task automation, predictive analytics, resource optimization, and data-driven decision making.
As part of PMI’s Learning team, I am interested in supporting project professionals in getting the most out of GenAI. Share out in the comments below, and learn how fellow project professionals are leveraging GenAI!
-How are you using AI in your PM workflows? -What kinds of workflows are you designing that save you significant amounts of time and effort and boost the quality of your work? -What tools do you string together to connect the dots to move from single, one-time interactions with tools like ChatGPT to full-blown, replicable workflows that allow you to spend your precious time elsewhere? -If you’re not yet leveraging AI in your work, what’s stopping you from doing so
Interested in learning more? PMI’s newly released course, Practical Application of Generative AI for Project Managers, explores this topic in more detail. Check out the course to deepen your knowledge, and share what you’ve learned with the PMI community!
-Have you tried any workflows from Practical Application of Generative AI for Project Managers? -What worked for you? -What didn’t work for you? -Have you adapted the workflow in any way? -Feel like sharing your version of the workflow? Do it!
Project managers indeed need advanced tools to streamline and automate processes and workflows, thereby accelerating deliverables.
There are many challenges facing project managers in using artificial intelligence tools. These challenges range from organisational and ethical considerations to security, data protection, and the confidentiality of information shared using these tools, as well as the policies and regulations governing the use of AI by organisations. I haven't used Generative AI yet, but I think it's a crucial tool for maintaining competitiveness, increasing efficiency and effectiveness, and generating value for the company. I'm going to implement it in my upcoming projects; that's why I'm training with the Practical Application of Generative AI for Project Managers course. Thank you. Saving Changes...
I would use AI in my workflows to streamline tasks and optimize time, designing workflows for progress measurement, budget control, value delivery measurement, and more, with the goal of making assertive and timely decisions.
This allows me to focus on strategic definitions and decisions for delivering value to the business, using tools like Claude or Copilot that facilitate summaries for team management and stakeholder presentations.
It's crucial to always keep in mind data security, data cleansing, and above all, that human oversight is essential in every decision and definition. Saving Changes...
The companies which can't induct the popular/open market LLMs into thier daily business processes due to security reasons, have started developing/have developed their own in-house AIs to facilitate their daily activities thus avoiding any risks associated with the Open Market AIs especially the risk of compromising their confidential information. What it would be really helpful for project managers is to have an AI tool that integrates and updates automatically all relevant documents. There are different documents focusing on different aspect of the project, so each time for example a task is updated, then this should be depicted in the plan, in the training material etc etc. Therefore, the existence of the necessary documents would be beneficial to be linked with an automated update.
Thank you for the insightful training material provided! Saving Changes...
I've just completed workflow 1 @ 2, my notes on workflow 1 is very complicated to workflow 2, as using AI tools, in workflow 2 is so simple, direct to the point, where 1 is so complicated, too many AI tools that for me i can use one AI tool ,...i ll continue the rest of the workflow. thanks Saving Changes...
Agile Execution and Backlog Grooming For iterative delivery, AI streamlines the translation of high-level objectives into granular, actionable work items. User Story Creation: Broad feature requests can be quickly translated into standard user stories, complete with robust, testable acceptance criteria. Blocker Identification: Summarizing daily standup notes or sprint retrospectives automatically highlights recurring bottlenecks, resource constraints, or areas where technical debt is impacting velocity.
I use ChatGPT for summarizing notes and drafting emails.
