Generative AI could be used to schedule meetings, gather status updates, consolidate project resource expense. A human would still have to review and approve the data before providing results. Saving Changes...
No - current AI tools cannot replace PMs. They can replace some of the administrative activities done by a PM and help provide guidance, but the interpersonal activities done by a PM such as engaging stakeholders or building a high performing team cannot be done by any type of AI solution until these tools achieve singularity.

Hello Cynthia,
I hold the (humble) view that the work by AI needs to be reviewed/verified by human to ensure the message remain factual, unbiased, and readable.
Thank you for the food for thoughts.

AI will not replace project managers for several reasons: 1. Lack of empathy and social skills: AI lacks the ability to understand and respond to human emotions, which is crucial for team management and conflict resolution. 2. Critical and strategic thinking: While AI can process large amounts of data, it cannot yet match the human ability to think critically, identify complex patterns and make strategic decisions. Adaptability and flexibility: Projects are dynamic and require constant adaptation to unforeseen changes. Human project managers can adjust their plans and strategies in real time, while AI is still limited in this respect. Ethics and accountability: Human project managers are responsible for the decisions they make and the consequences of their actions. AI cannot yet assume this level of ethical responsibility. Instead of replacing project managers, AI can become a valuable tool to support them in their tasks, Saving Changes...
Hi Cynthia Dawson like my peers shared, AI will never replace project managers. The value that an experienced PM can bring to a table is often understated when the media talks about AI in PM. It eases repetitive work without a doubt. But to strategically think in certain situations or to assess risk from experience like a human, AI still has a long way to go and you are right, a human needs to review the outputs from AI before proceeding further.

Cynthia, you are totally right. But some people are not aware on that. I can say that not only in the academic. I can say that in the practice because I am working in the largest consulting firm in the whole world helping to sell and implement this type of things. The point is simple: all related roles you can find in the PMI scope, mainly business analyst and project/program/portfolio manager are dead IN THE FORM the PMI has defined them and in most of the things that are stated on the standards. But this is a great opportunity except for people that did not see that. And great thing from your comment: you mentioned generative Ai, because Ai is a board term. The point is the new kid on the block: the new model of generative AI. Saving Changes...
