Diversity for me means all candidates or employees have equal rights, benefits and recognition, irrespective of gender, nationality or other demographics. This would help companies in hiring the best talent tailored to business requirements. However, some companies use this strategy as a marketing tool as well. What are your thoughts on this?

To me, diversity means more than just equal rights. It also means incorporating different perspectives and creating products suited to a broader market than my own demographic. That is more than just allowing other perspectives the opportunity for employment but rather seeking out other perspectives to ensure we're looking at problems from more angles.

We need to distinguish between diversity and inclusiveness. The former merely means that we are providing equal, fair opportunities and standing to all regardless of gender, origin, background, education, experience, sexual orientation and any other differentiating characteristics. The latter is the more valuable - do we truly embrace diversity and not make anyone feel excluded as part of our team? That is how we start to tap into the benefits which diverse teams can bring.

That's a brilliant answer, Kiron! I agree 100% on this. Gathering different perspectives in a business is crucial these days and ensuring that they are accepted is also equally important as well.

No, since we are diverse, we do not understand diversity similarly.

In a project environment, having the goal in sight, cognitive diversity is the most crucial. It encourages different perspectives and skills to be used in problem situations. It can be achieved by including various genders, cultures, and ages into a team.

Looking at the team, respect and humilty are very important with a diverse team, as diversity means the potential for conflicts out of differences

I would say no, we don’t. Some of us view it as an opportunity, while others see it as a challenge or even a headache.

Diversity in the field of disabilities is also essential and must be considered. People with all types of disabilities: visual, auditive, physical, or cognitive, perform adequately in the most diverse tasks. Companies must be aware of facilitating diversity in this area and providing adequate working conditions and facilities according to the type of disability.

I very much agree with Kiron that it is not only about promoting diversity when hiring people with different characteristics but also that true inclusion exists, that once hired the person feels in a collaborative environment and can really participate in the same way as everyone else.
