As governments strive to deliver results under significant pressure, the project management profession has a valuable role to play in ensuring projects achieve their strategic goals of supporting economic growth, generating jobs, and creating resilient infrastructure that is fit-for-purpose.

Effective program and project management is inherent in an organization’s ability to deliver its strategic goals; whether that’s meeting capital expenditure targets, effectively monitoring infrastructure costs, managing operational risk, or adopting innovative and market-leading capability in the management of assets.

Under constant scrutiny from investors, shareholders, and the community at large; projects across all industries are under increasing pressure to come in on time and on budget. From establishing a portfolio of programs that optimizes capital expenditure to providing certainty of project outcomes; capability and capacity, underpinned by digital technology, are critical in effective program and project management.

The volume of projects commissioned across every state and territory aims to “bust congestion, increase productivity, improve safety, and boost jobs at a time we need it most.” As governments bring forward billions of dollars-worth of shovel ready infrastructure projects, there is a huge opportunity for our country as well as future communities, if we get it right.

This is a profound moment in history where the decisions we make will impact our way of life for generations to come. The projects delivered will shape our economic future and be remembered as a formative period for the professionals that deliver them. Great project management is much more than scope, time, and budget constraints. It provides strategic alignment for an organization, creating a clear vision for how work is executed, and problems get solved.

The problem is an "ancient" problem. If organizations (all type) think about projects/programs then they are DoD (Dead on Arrive). They must think about solutions. Unfortunately the PMI has contribute to impulse the project/program way of thinking, in my opinion. But lot of professionals took the solution way of thinking. PMI change the way when take the business analyst role under they standards but unfortunately without being convinced on the value. No matter that, I am grateful with the PMI and I will continue trying to help as much as possible with my participation.

Agreed. Nowadays, many companies still underestimate the role of a project manager, and they do not recognize the different between project tasks and operation tasks.
