My name is Dario, I am a project manager in the automotive industry for 2.5 years. To reach the next level, I want to get the CAPM and PMP certifications but I also want to utilize all resources available to me through the membership.
What would you recommend to someone new to the entire platform?
What were the first steps you took?
What are the best tools that might be invisible at first glance?
Looking forward to learning more! Cheers.
Dario

Hello Dario,
Happy to help in your search.
First navigating the platform is user friendly but to get started you should familiarize yourself with all the membership benefits as this will help to get clarity on the new benefits from PMI as a member.
Then move to your courses and check on courses available for members to enable you to prepare for both the CAPM and PMP.
As a member, you can register for the PMXPO2025 which will take place virtually in March. It is the biggest PMXPO where you can connect with other project managers around the world and also to know the latest biz in the industry. I'll be happy to assist you navigate easily.

Hi Christiana,
Thank you for your reply. The PMXPO2025 sounds interesting, Is it free for members to join? Also, would you recommend me to join a local chapter? I am unsure if there is a large community in my area or not, so I was hesitant to join.

Welcome to the PMI Community, Dario!
You can start by exploring the webinars section, browse the available templates for download, and as Christiana said, attend events like PMXPO which is both a great learning and networking opportunity.
As a PMI member, you also have access to a range of free courses. Simply visit your PMI profile, navigate to the PMI Store/E-Learning section, and you'll find a variety of free courses. The four latest ones focus on AI.
Please note, these benefits are available to paid members, not those with a free membership.

Join your local Chapter and participate in their networking & professional development events. Read the Practice Guides and Standards which are available as a freely downloadable resource to members.
As you have 2.5 years experience, I'd suggest waiting till you get to 3 years and go directly for your PMP certification as the costs and effort involved in attaining the CAPM won't be offset by sufficient benefits given how close you are to the PMP experience threshold.

Hi Kiron,
Thanks a lot for your input!
I was considering waiting until I fulfilled the 3-year requirement but decided to do the CAPM exam first. I already purchased the CAPM prep course to get a feel for what is ahead of me. In retrospect, this might have not been the smartest move.
Do you think the CAPM prep course is sufficient to prepare me for the PMP exam?
Best,
Dario

Beyond what the others said, you could look at the free courses on the pmi.org website. I recommend starting with those two: https://www.pmi.org/kickoff
And then there are the webinars in this community and the PMI Taiwan Chapter where you might find physical contacts.

Dario -
No - there is definitely more scenario-oriented focus with the PMP than the CAPM which focuses on foundational knowledge, not as much the application of that knowledge.
I would strongly recommend either taking a prep course (live or on demand) or working through a good quality self-study guide for the PMP.

Saving Changes...
