Colleagues, I'm curious to hear how you promote the PMBOK project management principles in your projects, and with whom. Personally, I think it's a good idea to share them at least with the project team. I even believe mentioning one principle at the start of each daily stand-up meeting could be very effective.
But I'm wondering, what specific methods or tools do you use to promote these principles?
Upon earning my certifications in project management, I organized workshops at my workplace to impart my newly acquired knowledge. To enhance the learning experience, I prepared comprehensive PowerPoint presentations to help visualize key concepts. I firmly believe that the practice of knowledge sharing is essential, as it not only helps reinforce and refresh our own understanding but also plays a pivotal role in disseminating valuable insights. Additionally, I included a Q&A session at the end of each workshop to address any questions and facilitate deeper discussions, thereby enabling a broader audience to benefit from the shared information.

That's very interesting Danny, and thank you for sharing. I find that approach very valuable. I'm curious, do you also do something similar with key stakeholders when starting a new project? Perhaps a focused session fir Project management Principles?

No one will disagree with principles, but because they are universally applicable, by themselves they are too abstract to provide much value to team members. However, modeling principles in one's behavior or decision making (i.e. bringing them to life) is a more effective approach.

Kiron that's very true! and thanks for sharing that insight. I completely agree; leading by example is the best way to make abstract principles practical. Demonstrating those principles in our daily decisions and actions makes a real difference. Thanks again, it's very helpful!

I agree with Kiron, the principles are generalized enough to resonate with every industry domain and project context. In addition to behaviors, they should show up in the processes that are defined for executing projects in the organization. For ex., of the 12 principles let's take risk principle which talks about risk responses being owned by responsible person. So, the PM would implement a tailored risk management process which includes - identification, planning & monitoring. Within this process, they should make sure the risks are assigned to the right person who can implement the response.
