Am preparing for PMP.
Question:
In the Direct and Manage Project Execution process, a change request is a(n)_____.

Options:
A) input

B) tool/technique

Correct answer: C) output
An approved change request can be an input to Direct and Manage Project Execution, but a change request that has not been approved would be an output of the Direct and Manage Project Execution process.

My answer: D) input as well as an output

My question here is; In the "Direct and Manage Project Execution process" if both approved and not-approved changes can be an input, then how "output" can only be a correct answer; particularly when no status of change request is indicated in question. I request you please correct my understanding.

I think the difficulty is that you are reading "Change request" as something general - a generic desire or suggestion of a change, whereas within the formal methodology it means something much more specific - a Change request is an artefact - a document or something similar, created in that process, and is therefore an output.

It may be (and generally is) the result of an input of a desire for a change, but the actual item "change request" isn't just an informal request to consider the change but a specific thing that collects together all the details and associated information about the change - if you think this could be an input, it must have been created elsewhere in order to be used as an input - where else would this have occurred?

Why do you state that 'both approved and not approved........"? As far as I am aware, only approved change requests will be an input into the Direct and Manage Process.

1. Change requests are generated as part of the "Direct and Change" process
2.This Change request are then evaluated in the "Perform Integrated Change Control".
3. If the Change request is approved, then the APPROVED change request will act as a new input to "Direct and Manage"
