hi Mohamed,

Some differences are:
1) Project Schedule is a Project Document , whereas Project Schedule Baseline is a component of Project Management Plan (Ref. Page # 78 Table 4-1 PMBOK Guide Fifth Edition)
2) Project Schedule is a "Live" document , whereas Project Schedule Baseline is an approved document , which is "Frozen".

Thanks and best regards,

Hi

In addition to Ranjit's statement Since Project Schedule is a Project Document i think management approval is not required to make changes to Project Schedule , but for better control and coherence Project schedule should be in line with Project schedule base line.

@Ranjit please correct me if I m wrong ?

hi Anil,

Yes, whatever immediate or current changes are done for the Schedule Baseline before Change Request approval are actually reflected in the Project Schedule. This is very "LIVE" in nature. Once the Change Requests are approved , they are updated in the Project Schedule Baseline.

Thanks and best regards,

schedule baseline can only be modified with an approved change request. The project schedule will evolve continuously as the project progresses. Basically, the schedule baseline is static (once approved) and the project schedule is dynamic. The project schedule can be compared to the schedule baseline to identify discrepancies and make adjustments to keep the project schedule in alignment with the plan.

I read the responses here and it's still unclear to me... Here are some questions I have:
- The fact that one is part of the plan and the other is a document doesn't really help, maybe bc I don't understand the significance of the difference
- Yes the sched baseline is frozen, but what then is the purpose of the schedule doc, to show the actual schedule as activities get completed?
I think it would be helpful to explain schedule baseline vs sched document in terms of how/when each is used
Thank you.
