I’d like to open a conversation about Jamaica and explore how we, as a community, might be able to support in meaningful ways. Many of us have personal, cultural, or professional ties to Jamaica, and even when we are not directly affected, we often feel the call to help — to connect, uplift, and stand alongside others.

This is not about formal relief or recovery programs. It’s simply about sharing information, ideas, or opportunities that could be helpful — big or small. For example:

* Are there community events, local initiatives, or organizations already doing good work that we could amplify or learn from?
* Are chapters or member groups hosting spaces for dialogue, connection, or support
* Are there ways our project skills or networks could help strengthen existing efforts?

If you’re in Jamaica, or connected to the community in any way, your voice is especially welcome — but everyone is invited to reflect, suggest, or ask questions.

This forum exists so we don’t have to navigate these moments alone. When we listen and act together — even in simple, grounded ways — we create real, human impact.

Thank you for showing up with care and curiosity.

Hi Ricardo, I appreciate the intention behind this conversation.
However, could you please clarify why Jamaica has been chosen as the focal point for this discussion?
To be honest, I haven’t seen anything specific that prompted this focus, so would like to understand the context a bit more.

Hi Danny, the idea of this forum (https://www.projectmanagement.com/pmi/pmi-in-times-of-need/) is to discuss how to support each other in times of need. Jamaica was affected by a very bad hurricane. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1e34p92q0vo so that's the reason of the conversation, to explore ideas on what we can do, without going into technical details of disaster recovery....

Hello Ricardo,
Thank you for opening this space and specifically highlighting Jamaica. I really appreciate the reminder that our community can be a place for connection and support, not only formal programs.

While this post focuses on Jamaica, it also reflects challenges that many communities around the world are facing. For me, that’s even more reason to start by listening carefully to those who are closest to the situation — local chapters, community leaders, or related organizations — so we can understand what is actually needed before we act.

As PMI members, our value often lies in how we coordinate, connect people, and design support in a structured, respectful way. I’d be very interested in hearing from members in or connected to Jamaica on what would be most helpful right now, and how we might collaborate in a way that truly strengthens the efforts already on the ground.
