Hello, fellow project management professionals!

A while ago, I received a simple corporate gift—a desk calendar. At the time, I didn't realize it would become a pivotal moment in my career. That small token unexpectedly led me into volunteering for animal welfare and completely reshaped how I view Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and our role as project leaders.

As PMs, we often focus heavily on triple constraints, KPIs, and deliverables. However, looking at the PMI Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, we are reminded that our ultimate responsibility is to make decisions that advance the common good and respect the community we serve.

Inspired by this philosophy, I recently initiated a personal "passion project." I created a custom desk calendar—completely free of logos or commercial intent—paired with a donation to a charity that brings laughter to hospitalized children. This was my way of practicing Transformational Leadership through gratitude, passing on the mentorship, trust, and support that senior peers and mentors generously gave me early in my career.

In our profession, real impact isn't just about managing a project to close; it's about managing with a human-centric approach. When we lead with empathy and social responsibility, we create a sustainable culture where project teams and stakeholders thrive.

I’d love to facilitate a dialogue with the community on this:

  1. As a project manager, how do you integrate the PMI core value of Responsibility (to society and the environment) into your day-to-day leadership style?
  2. How can we, as a global PM community, better foster mentorship to ensure that the "goodwill and knowledge" we receive are continuously passed down to the next generation of practitioners?

Let’s share our thoughts and success stories below!

A thoughtful and inspiring reflection.
It is often the smallest experiences that reshape how we lead.

I would add one further thought.
Small acts of care become most powerful when they influence not only what we choose to do personally, but also how we make everyday decisions.
Ethical leadership is often revealed not only through acts of generosity, but through the difficult choices we make, the competing interests we balance and the consequences we are willing to own.

Perhaps that is the lasting ripple effect: when a moment of kindness evolves into a consistent way of exercising judgment, responsibility and leadership.

Your story is a great reminder that leadership is measured not only by project outcomes but also by the positive impact we leave on people and communities. I try to embed responsibility through ethical decisions, mentoring, and creating opportunities for others to grow. Small acts of care often create a lasting ripple effect far beyond the project itself.
