I once skipped a full sign-off cycle to hit a client deadline, broke protocol, but saved the relationship. Sometimes judgment beats process, and knowing when to bend the rules is a skill in its own right.

I've adjusted governance a few times when the situation called for it. For example, I've started execution on low-risk activities before every approval was formally completed because waiting would have delayed the project unnecessarily.
The key is making sure the risks are understood, the right people are informed, and the decision is intentional rather than simply bypassing the process.
