Is the CPMAI the new PMI-ACP? (What Agile was to 2011, AI Governance is to 2026).

Ten to fifteen years ago, a massive shift happened in corporate delivery. Traditional waterfall methods hit a wall with modern software pacing, and the PMI-ACP and Scrum frameworks exploded. Suddenly, if you didn't know how to run a sprint or manage a backlog, you were left behind. Agile became the baseline expectation for standard project execution.

Today, we are standing at the exact same precipice with Artificial Intelligence—but the stakes are significantly higher.

Basic project management tasks are rapidly being automated. The market is saturated with traditional delivery leads. Meanwhile, enterprise boards are panicking because up to 80% of corporate AI and machine learning initiatives fail due to data chaos, compliance issues, and a lack of structured governance.

That is why I bypassed traditional tactical paths to secure my Certified AI Project Manager (CPMAI)credential right alongside my PgMP.

Just like Agile in 2011, tool-agnostic AI lifecycle governance is no longer a niche technical flex; it is the modern enterprise strategy. The CPMAI framework isn't about learning to write code—it’s about knowing how to structure data pipelines, manage model drift, and safely guide multi-million dollar ML initiatives through strict regulatory filters.

If you are a project or program leader trying to map out your next five years, stop collecting legacy badges. The "alphabet soup" of the past won't protect you from process automation. Position yourself where the capital is flowing: at the intersection of macro governance and cognitive lifecycles.

To my network: Are your teams still trying to manage complex data projects using basic, standard frameworks, or have you started pivoting your governance to handle the non-linear realities of enterprise AI? Let’s discuss below. 👇
