I would bring snacks! I can't work on a project if I'm hungry. I would NOT bring a hot air balloon. It is likely not going to be an efficient mode of transportation for the team.
I would bring a notebook and pencil to keep track of notes and deadlines. I would NOT bring a disco ball (it's great for the vibes but hard to fit in a bag!)

🎒 One thing I WOULD bring: A pack of markers. Give me a messy problem, and with enough markers (board/wall space granted), we’ll figure something out.

I would not bring any albatrosses, such as impatience, overthinking or narrow thinking. And I would definitely ban that jerk, Scope Creep!

Hi everyone, I'm Derek Morrill, a Construction Management student at Rowan University, with a minor in Business Administration, and a member of the PMI Washington, D.C. Chapter (PMIWDC).
After 15 years in the field as a Master Plumber and HVAC mechanic building data centers, federal facilities, and airports around the D.C. area, I'm officially making the jump to the project management side of the table this month. The plan doesn't stop there, I'm considering pursuing an MBA after graduation to round out the business side of construction. Excited to connect with other students, especially anyone else coming from the trades.
For the trip: I WOULD bring my torpedo level. Old field habit, I like knowing things are plumb, level, and on track before we move forward. I would NOT bring my pipe wrenches. I'm leaving the tools behind for a little while... though it took two decades to convince myself to put them down. 🔧

Hi everyone! My name is James Carder. I’m excited to be part of the PMI Student Club and connect with other students interested in project management. For my project management trip, I WOULD bring a notebook and a good pair of headphones. The notebook would help me keep track of ideas, tasks, and deadlines, while the headphones would be useful when I need to focus. I would NOT bring a giant whiteboard! If I were heading out on a project management trip, one thing I’d definitely bring is my notebook 📙 because somehow, the best ideas always show up when you’re not looking for them. 😂
I want to make sure I pen down as many ideas, insights, and lessons as I can. And of course, I’ll keep curiosity firmly in my left hand 🫲🏽, so I don’t mistakenly swallow it while eating during a discussion 🤣. After all, we have to identify and mitigate every project risk, even the unexpected ones😂
One thing I definitely wouldn’t bring? The “we’ve always done it this way” mindset.
If there’s one thing project management has taught me, it’s that every project is an opportunity to learn, adapt, improve, and create value.

One thing I would NOT bring is negativity. Projects thrive on collaboration, optimism, and problem-solving, so I’d leave that behind.

For my PM trip: I WOULD bring a good cup of coffee — non-negotiable. No caffeine, no critical path. I would NOT bring a rigid itinerary with zero room to change. Half the fun of any trip - like any project - is adjusting the plan when something better comes along.

I’m John Ocampo, recently graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE). During my university years, I had the opportunity to serve as Secretary and President of the PMI Student Club Andes Pacífico Ecuador. Although I have now completed my term as President, I continue to collaborate occasionally as a volunteer with both the PMI Chapter and the Student Club. I’m also currently participating in an ACP study session program organized by several PMI chapters across Latin America. 🌎
Now, for my project management journey, what would I pack? 🎒
I WOULD bring my phone. Because, on a project management trip, the projects travel with us. And, somehow, the further we go, the more questions the team seems to have. 😂 I think "Just a quick question..." is probably the most dreaded phrase during project management trips.
I WOULD NOT bring an office chair. Projects already come with enough meetings. I don’t need to bring the meeting room with me too.
