A very relevant question, Francisco.
I would add one distinction: not every difficult situation with the person we report to is primarily a confidence or courage problem.

Some situations require courage, but others reveal conflicting expectations, power asymmetries, unclear decision rights or organizational conditions that make disagreement and escalation genuinely difficult. In those cases, fear may not simply be something to overcome.
It may be information about the consequences a person reasonably perceives.

Professional judgment therefore matters as much as courage.
The challenge is to understand what is happening, what evidence supports our concerns, what we can legitimately influence, where the boundaries lie, and when escalation is warranted.

Perhaps professionalism is not only having the courage to speak.
It is knowing what needs to be said, when, to whom, on what evidence, and what to do when the conditions for speaking safely are themselves part of the problem.
