Hi everyone,
I'm looking for advice from PMs who have managed large, multi-module digital products.
I'm involved in planning a super app development project. For anyone unfamiliar with the term, a super app combines several services in one platform, similar to apps like Grab or WeChat. In our case, the scope includes ride booking, food delivery, bill payments, a digital wallet, and a loyalty programme, all sharing one login, one wallet, and one customer profile.
From a project management perspective, this feels very different from a normal app project. A few challenges keep coming up:
1. Sequencing the modules
Some modules depend on shared foundations such as user accounts, the wallet, notifications, and KYC. Others are fairly independent. Do you build the shared core first and delay visible features, or launch one complete service early and expand from there?
2. Third-party dependencies
Payment gateways, KYC providers, mapping services, and restaurant or driver partners all have their own onboarding timelines and approval processes. These are largely outside the team's control. How do you build realistic buffers for them into the schedule?
3. Multiple teams, one release
Each mini-app may have its own team, but they all ship inside one app binary. How do you coordinate release planning so one delayed module doesn't hold everything back? Have feature flags or phased rollouts worked well for you here?
4. Regulatory approvals
The wallet and payments features may need regulatory clearance, which can take months. Do you run the rest of the project in parallel and treat approval as a milestone gate, or plan the launch around it from the start?
5. Measuring progress
With so many workstreams, it's hard to give stakeholders a clear picture of overall progress. What reporting approach has worked best for you?
I'd really value any lessons learned, including things that didn't work. Thank you!
