Hi everyone! I’m in Ohio and looking for some guidance as I take the next step in my project management career.
I recently completed the 35 hours of project management education required for the PMP exam and plan to spend the next few months preparing for it. I’ve worked as a grant project manager for several years, managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, budgets, timelines, deliverables, and reporting requirements. I also have over 20 years of experience in healthcare and public health.
My challenge is that I came into project management through experience rather than through a formal PM environment. I haven’t had much exposure to established PM methodologies, standardized processes, dedicated PM software, or working alongside experienced project managers in a PMO. I have always been given projects and just had to figure out how to manage them.
I’m hoping to bridge that gap rather than start over. I’d especially like to find an organization where I can apply my existing project management experience while learning more formal PM practices, tools, and processes from experienced project managers. I would like to find a really good mentoring organization.
Does anyone have recommendations for organizations in Ohio (or remote) potentially open to hiring experienced professionals transitioning into more formal PM roles? I’d also appreciate suggestions for mentoring opportunities, resources, or other ways to gain this type of practical experience.
