How do you keep task ownership clear in a growing project team?

One thing I’ve noticed as teams grow is that having a task list isn’t necessarily the hard part. The harder part is making it clear who actually owns each task and what should happen next.

In smaller teams, it’s easy to say “someone will take care of it.” But once several people are working on the same project, that can quickly lead to duplicated work, missed deadlines, or tasks sitting in limbo.

I’m curious how other project managers handle this.

  1. Do you assign exactly one owner to each task?
  2. How do you handle tasks that involve multiple people?
  3. Do you use Kanban boards, task lists, or another workflow?
  4. What do you do when a task stays in progress for too long?

I’d be interested to hear what has worked for different teams, especially small teams managing multiple projects at once.
