Thank you for your comments guys. I am specialized on software development project management and I would like some advice about the correct IT direction to take and which trending areas you recommend me to point my career at. My expertise is on Java and .Net projects but, since I have been in the consulting and management area, my technical knowledge is not very deep.
Hi Luis,
I would recommend data mining, or as the media calls it, data science. There is a huge trend of companies with untold amount of data going through it and finding statistical relationships to better model their products. That sounds general because the industry has gone in so many directions. It's definitely still in the ramp up, although hype is at 1000%. Saving Changes...

The digitalization of organizations is up and coming, that's right. Within the IT it means hybrid scenarios, cloud scenarios, and decentralization and mobility far beyond BYOD. There is a need for information to be spread, found, and filtered in a much better way and much more "automatically". IT has to provide the technical solutions for the new way of more distributed work to allow users to focus on value creation. Business Intelligence - of course - is a thing and is nowhere near its exhaustion. The fundament of it all is providing fast and easy to use soltuions and continuous improvement.

I think that Cloud will be a big part of IT projects in the near future. These projects will be run by the Shadow IT within the business departments and not by core IT professionals. Business knowledge will be more valuable to realising software solutions than core coding, as custom code is replaced by SaaS and other Cloud solutions. Saving Changes...
